Other applications

A number of physical properties of materials can be related to the zeta potential of the dispersed particles.

• In ceramics manufacture - a well-dispersed slip is essential in preventing the formation of aggregates that would create voids, and hence weaknesses, in the final product.
  
• In a paper mill - the zeta potential of paper pulp in the headbox determines the consistency of parameters such as strength and finish, and the quantity of retention aid required.
  
• In milk processing - zeta potential is a factor in determining the stability of the emulsion by the casein micelles.
