This seminar will deal with some of the issues regarding the retention of nanomaterials in dispersed form. Many difficulties confront laboratories when a system is presented (often in powder form) and stated to be "nano" and the laboratory's function is thought to be to confirm such a diagnosis. This session will outline some of the combination technologies that should be brought to bear on the problem - microscopy, sedimentation, BET and light scattering and the interpretation of bulk and primary particle size as well as a scientific and logical approach to the method development and analysis of such materials.
